形容词比较级
形容词比较级可以对两个物体做比较，如较大丶较小丶较快丶较高等。这类形容词只能比较两个名词，公式如下：
名词（主格） 动词 形容词比较级 than 名词（受格）。
如果被比较的事物已经很明确，就无需再重复（请见以下最后一个例句）。
举例
- my house is larger than hers.
- this box is smaller than the one i lost.
- your dog runs faster than jim's dog.
- the rock flew higher than the roof.
- jim and jack are both my friends, but i like jack better.（要讲出「than jim」也可以，但前面已透露另一个受词「jim」，因此可省略不提）
形容词最高级
形容词最高级描述的事物，是处于某些特性的上限或下限，如最高丶最小丶最快丶最高等。当句中的主词同时与多个受词一起比较，就会用到这类形容词。
名词（主格） 动词 the 形容词最高级 名词（受格）。
如果被比较的事物已经很明确，就无需再重复（请见以下最后一个例句）。
举例
- my house is the largest one in our neighborhood.
- this is the smallest box i've ever seen.
- your dog ran the fastest of any dog in the race.
- we all threw our rocks at the same time. my rock flew the highest.（要讲出「of all the rocks」也可以，但前句话已提过，因此可省略不提）
如何形成规则比较级和最高级
要形成比较级和最高级，只要遵循几个简单的规则即可；比较级和最高级的型态取决于形容词原型的音节数。
单音节形容词
如果形容词只有一个音节，在字尾加 er 即成为比较级，而在字尾加 est 则成为最高级。如果形容词的拼音形式为「子音 单母音 子音」，则必须重复最后一个子音再加这些字尾。

两个音节的形容词
若形容词有两个音节，形成比较级有两种方法：第一种是在字尾加 er；第二种则是在形容词前加 more。而形成最高级也是用这样的方式：在形容词字尾加 est，或在形容词前加 most。一般来说会有一种写法比较普遍，但两种形式其实都正确。如果不确定形容词能否用这样的字尾来形成比较级或最高级，最保守的作法是一律在形容词前加 more 或 most。对于字尾为 y 的形容词，就要先把 y 改为 i，再加上比较级或最高级的字尾。

有三个或更多音节的形容词
具有三个或更多音节的形容词，只要在形容词前加上 more，即可形成比较级；而在形容词前加上 most，则形成最高级。
