限定词 other 和 another 指的是剩馀或其他的事。两者都是放在名词前，the other 则不混为一谈，因为它的用法稍有不同。

other 的用法
other 可以放在 some丶any丶no 等限定词后。
举例
- do you have other shoes?
- there are other jobs you could try.
- is there any other bread?
- i have some other sugar we could use.
- we have no other ideas.
当 other 前面是限定词，而且后面接的是可数名词复数形，当语境已经很清楚名词为何物，则可直接省略不提。在这种情况下，other 会成为复数形 others。这种情形也会发生 other 单独和可数名词连用的时候，只是较不常见。

- do you have any others?
- i know some others who might like to come.
- there are no others in this box.
- i know others like vanilla, but i prefer chocolate.
- she doesn't have to wear that dress. she has others.
使用 another
another 与可数名词单数形连用。至于不可数名词，another 通常会接单数的测量词。

- have another cookie.
- would you like another cup of tea?
- he has another brother.
- i don't have another car.
- i'll come by another time.
使用 the other
当 the other 修饰的是可数名词复数形时，而且语境已经很清楚名词为何物，则可直接省略。在这种情况下，other 会成为复数形。

- where is the other box of cereal?
- i work on the weekend and go to school on the other days of the week.
- may i use the other honey for my recipe?
- i enjoyed the first book but i didn't read the other books in the series.
- have you seen the others?
- jim ate two cookies. i ate the others.
