分号可说是介于逗号与句号之间的符号，可以用来连接与主题有紧密关连的片语或句子，而不必用连接词（如以下第一个例句）。在列举各项事物之间也可以用分号，如果列举的事项中已经使用过逗号，其后就应以分号来连接，如以下第二例句。
