有些副词和副词片语会表达讲话者对某件事的观点,或对某件事做评论。这类副词和其他副词不同之处,在于它不会告诉我们某件事是如何发生的。评论性副词和观点副词修饰的是整个句子,而不是单修饰动词丶副词或形容词。评论性副词和观点副词之间并没有实质的差别,只有在句中的位置不同而已。许多观点副词也可以用作评论性副词;然而在某些情况下,副词的性质会更偏向其中一种。
句中的位置
观点副词会放在句首,只有在少数情况下会放在句尾,通常会以一个逗号来与其馀句子隔开。评论性副词则是放在主要动词前,但如果动词是 be 动词,副词则会放在动词前或后。在少数情况下,主要动词前的评论性副词会用逗号来与其馀句子隔开。在以下的例句中,观点副词和评论性副词在句中的位置都是正确的。如果副词在句中的位置很不寻常丶不自然,或在口语上过于文邹邹,就会标上星号。
